The House
A correspondence, not a search bar.
Maison was founded in 2011 by Alma Vermeer-Torsten, an architect who had grown tired of listings that knew nothing about weather. The first residence in the catalogue — a small stone house above Antiparos — was kept for three years before it was ever introduced to anyone. That patience became the method.
“We don’t list houses. We keep a correspondence with them — and occasionally introduce them to the right reader.”
Alma Vermeer-Torsten · Principal
Method
A residence enters the catalogue only after it has been photographed in three distinct seasons, walked by our architect, and kept for at least twelve months. We publish nothing we would not open ourselves.
Practice
Three offices, one house. Viewings are always in person, always with the residence’s caretaker, always unrushed. Every letter receives a personal reply, by name, within two working days.
